Hyundai turned the tides with Elantra Wagon, during the year 1996, when almost all the manufacturers were discontinuing their compact station wagons.
Features
The Elantra Wagon was the very first wagon launched in US, with unique styling and biggest interior volume in its class. Equipped with a powerful engine, the Elantra Wagon was offered with standard roof rack that could bear 180lbs weight and the rear seats were foldable that allowed creation of a flat cargo floor.
When the 1999 model was launched the Elantra Wagon was revamped again and along with several interior refinements, the engine was given a facelift along with improvement in the quality and standards of the interior and exterior equipments.
Price
Despite its impressive capabilities, the Elantra Wagon was marketed at a reasonable price of $2,575 – $3,050 during 1996, which was increased to $4,425 – $4,650 during the year 2000.
The production of Elantra Wagon was stopped during 2001, when a new sedan replaced it, in form of 2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS. The Elantra Wagon has been one of the most successful compact station wagons during 1996-2000, but once the expensive cars started dominating the market, Hyundai followed the lead by launching an expensive version of the Elantra Wagon.
